The Nigerian Minister of Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, congratulated Senator Abdul'aziz Yari Abubakar on his appointment as the Marafan Sokoto, a title bestowed upon him by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Dr. Matawalle commended Senator Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and currently a Senator representing Zamfara West, for receiving one of the highest traditional titles in the Sokoto Caliphate. He described the honor as recognition not only for Senator Yari but also for the entire people of Zamfara State.

“This title is a source of pride for the people of Zamfara and the APC party. Senator Yari embodies qualities befitting the Marafan Sokoto title, as recognized by the Sokoto Sultanate,” Matawalle said.

Senator Yari, who is the in-law of the late Marafan Sokoto, Alhaji Umaru Aliyu Shinkafi, will continue to uphold the legacy of his late relative, having earned recognition for his diligence, patience, and community service.

Matawalle also praised the Sultanate Council for its decision, noting Senator Yari’s “humility, dedication, and spirit of community service,” which align with the values of the Marafan Sokoto title.

He concluded by praying that Allah continue to guide and protect Senator Yari as he serves his state and community.
