ZAMANI - Episode 1

She walked slowly along the street, glancing backward with the nervous air of someone with a guilty conscience. One look at her made it obvious that she was terrified. She was dressed in a long black jallabiya with a short white veil over her head. The sky was very dark, signaling an approaching storm with lightning flashing and rain threatening to fall at any moment.

She crossed the street, headed toward a corner, and walked straight ahead while continuing to look back. Just as the rain began to pour heavily, a very handsome, eye-catching car pulled up right behind her. Even without turning around, she knew who it was. She stopped in her tracks as the rain soaked her body. He slowly drove up ahead of her, and without wasting any time, she opened the passenger door, got inside, and closed it.

In a soft voice, she greeted him, "Good afternoon." He smiled and replied, "Good afternoon, A'isha. How is the house?" "Fine," she answered.

After that, neither of them spoke. He focused entirely on his driving while she looked out the window, watching the rain fall. He parked in front of a massive house, quickly got out to open the gate, drove inside, locked the gate behind him, came back to her door, and said, "Bismillah."

She stepped out slowly, and they entered the house. He led her straight into his bedroom. She entered with a soft greeting. The room was immaculately clean, and the bed was decorated like that of a newlywed bride. She sat down on the floor, leaning against the bed, looking around the room in admiration. Everywhere was spotless and filled with a wonderfully pleasant fragrance.

He pushed the door shut, turned on the ceiling fan, and switched off the lights. She turned to him quickly and asked, "Why am I freezing like this? Can't you see my body is shivering?" He turned the fan off and said, "As for me, I'm burning up. This light drizzle feels like it brought the heat right out of the ground." In her thoughts, she muttered, "Listen to him calling this a drizzle—what kind of drizzle is this?" "So, A'isha, you've come to the house of your lover, what should I give you to eat?" She let out a sigh and said, "I'm actually full. It hasn't been long since I ate." "Are you sure?" She simply nodded in response.

He sat close to her and began looking at her from underneath lowered lashes with the knowing smile of an experienced man. Slowly, cleverly, and deceitfully, he began telling her light stories while lightly touching her body. Caught up in the enjoyment of the conversation, she leaned into his body, laughing as the chat grew sweeter...

ZAMANI - Episode 2

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

"Aisha, I swear I am sleepy. You know we spent two days out in the bush, and I only got back this morning. I rested a bit, but I haven't had proper sleep, and then I saw your call..." "Hmm! You guys really are trying. Is it true that even women do your kind of work?" she asked, looking right into his face. "Of course! There are women, but they don't sleep out in the bush; they stay in the office." "Which bush do you guys sleep in?" "As for us, there's no place they don't send us. Right now, we are at the border..."

She quickly cut him off, saying, "I swear to God, I want to go to Niger. I want to go and see how the place looks, especially Maradi." "Don't worry. One day, get ready and we'll go together and come back. It's not far from here." "Hmm! When will they ever let me go? I've already told you everything." "Why don't you just say you're going to school, just like you did today, and then we'll go?"

He spoke while lightly caressing her. She slowly closed her eyes, enjoying what he was doing to her. Noticing this, he slyly slipped his hand onto her chest. Immediately, she felt a delicious shiver (yarrr...). She let out a soft sigh, completely relaxing her body with her eyes closed.

"I once had a girlfriend from Niger, let me tell you, A'isha. That girl was gorgeous, and she was amazing. I'm telling you, A'isha, that girl once made me cry in this very room. I was shouting because of how incredible she was; she knew how to handle a man like..."

She pushed him away from her forcefully, glaring at him. "Never mention another woman to me when we are together. What do I care about her supposed perfection that you have to bother me with it?"

He quickly knelt down in front of her, holding his ears as he pleaded, "I repent, my sholy, please forgive me. I won't do it again." He finished speaking by twisting his neck as if he was about to burst into tears.

She turned her head away, looking in another direction. Seeing this, he pulled her into his embrace entirely, stroking her all over and sniffing her like a cat. Slowly, he began exploring her lips. At first, she turned her head away, but eventually, she parted her lips, and he slipped his tongue inside. She immediately caught it and began sucking on it as if she had been waiting for it. They spent over five minutes exchanging saliva before he slowly moved downward, kissing parts of her body in every nook and cranny. Finally, he landed on her chest, slipping his hands in and pulling them out completely. He lost his composure and immediately began sucking and playing with them as if...

He picked her up effortlessly and carried her to his bed, her eyes half-closed and her body trembling. He began playing wicked games with her. It felt intensely good to her until she let out a strange cry of pleasure, hugging him with all her might for about three minutes. Then she pushed him away hard as she felt him attempting to enter the sanctuary she had never touched before, not even in a dream.

Panicked, he lunged at her, squeezed her tightly, and tried to find a way in, but there was nothing—absolutely no sign of entry. She let out a wild scream and cry, saying, "Leave me alone! I have never done this, I swear, please let me go!"

Filled with anger and heartbreak, he sat down, holding his head with both hands. In frustration, he muttered to himself, "Why, why, why? Why do I always run into virgins? Why?"

Quickly gathering the clothes he had stripped from her body, she put them back on, her legs shaking...

ZAMANI - Episode 3

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

Feeling subdued, she sat down and leaned her back against the bed, taking slow, deep breaths. In a hurried crawl, he slid over and collapsed in front of her. His eyes were bloodshot—and as if that weren't enough, they were bulging red. In a pleading voice, he said, "Habba A'isha, how could you do this to me? Is this what we agreed on, A'isha, uhm?"

With a trembling voice, she replied, "I've never had sex before, I've never done it, I swear. My limit is just playing, but I saw that you are not like that on your end..." "Then what did you tell me, iye? Didn't you tell me you could do anything for me to feel good? You said as long as I stick to you alone, you would do everything for me, and I would have you just the way I want. You promised me you would keep yourself for me and I would do whatever I wanted with you! So why would you do this to me, habba?" "I didn't mean it like that for you. I meant games—I can play any kind of game, but truly, not this one." "So what do you want us to do now?" "I already told you."

Without waiting for her to continue, he pulled her against him and began putting her through complicated, hard-to-describe moves. At first, she tried to resist, but she soon gave up, growing completely limp and soft in his arms. He continued massaging and handling her all over until sleep overtook both of them after he pulled a blanket over them.

Around 2:30 AM, he slowly opened his eyes, slid away from her, and headed to the bathroom. He took a bath, performed ablutions, and came out to spread a prayer mat and pray. As soon as he finished his Tasleem, she opened her eyes. She got up as well, took a bath, and came out to pray. When she finished her prayers, she looked at him with childish playfulness and said, "I'm very hungry." "So what do you want to eat? Let me go and buy it. I'm feeling hungry too." "I think you should just buy chips."

He grabbed his car keys and stepped out of the house, locking her inside. For thirty minutes, he was gone before returning with nylon bags in his hand. They both started eating theirs, finishing in no time and praising God. He ate pounded yam with green vegetable soup, while she ate chips, egg, and plantain.

"Baby, let's go, take me home." "Baby, not yet. Let's wait until we pray Asr, then I'll drop you." She shrugged her shoulders to indicate that was fine. After they prayed Asr, he drove her back home.

The house gateman greeted her, and she responded with a smile, walking past him into the house. Her living room smelled wonderful as usual. She paused for a moment to gaze at the shining tiles covering the floor, admiring how brilliantly polished they looked from expert care. Even without anyone telling her, she knew this was the handiwork of Talatu, their housemaid. She walked straight to the kitchen; it was as spotless as the living room, with a lovely fragrance wafting from it. She turned and headed to her room—everything was in order. She threw herself onto the bed, closed her eyes, and a sweet sleep carried her away.

Talatu came in, saw her sleeping, and quietly pulled the door closed behind her. She didn't wake up until around 5:30 PM, and even then, it was her phone alarm that dragged her away from the sleep she was enjoying, much against her wishes.

She sat up, muttered an exclamation, and stepped out into the living room. She headed to Talatu's room and found her resting while lounging. "Hajiya Talatu, are you resting like this?" Talatu quickly sat up, scratching her head with a smile on her face. "Ah-ah, my mistress, you're awake from your sleep? I came in and saw you sleeping, so I just went ahead with my chores. Even the pepper paste you'll need for cooking, I've already blended and boiled it for you. I said once you wake up, you can just fry it and continue cooking." "You really did well, Talatu, because sleep completely carried me away, and it's only thirty minutes before Anty and the others return."

Leaving Talatu in her room trying to tie her headscarf, A'isha hurried to the kitchen to start preparing dinner before the homeowners returned...

ZAMANI - Episode 4

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

Within a short time, the entire house was filled with the aroma of the meal she was preparing. She cooked macaroni infused with dried fish and meat. It didn't take her long to finish everything, and she arranged the food neatly on the dining table.

Around 6:15 PM, the homeowners returned. She greeted them, and they responded cheerfully. "My daughter, what did you cook for us? I noticed the house smelling so fragrant." "Uncle, your favorite person cooked it." "Wow, you mean today I'm going to enjoy a great meal? Masha Allah, may God bless you." "Ameen, Uncle."

After Maghrib prayer, they settled down at the dining table to give their stomachs their due. Looking at each of them, their faces beamed with appreciation for the meal. Complete silence descended upon them; no one uttered a word except for the clinking of spoons.

Every time A'isha lifted her eyes, they would lock with her Uncle's eyes. He would flash a quiet smile at her, and she would return it. Anty Abida was completely unaware of everything going on; she was simply enjoying her meal with complete focus on the food and none on anything else.

That was how they finished dinner. Anty Abida bid them goodnight and walked off to her room. That was always her routine: upon returning from work, she would bathe, pray, eat, bid them goodnight, and go to her room. There, she would pray Isha and go to sleep, waking up the next morning at seven to leave for work along with her husband. That was their daily routine, as both she and her husband worked as bankers at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) right here in Katsina.

The call for Isha prayer was made, which prompted Uncle to head to the neighborhood mosque outside his gate to worship. A'isha, as usual, had already gone to her room, bathed, prayed, and changed into gorgeous nightwear consisting of a top and trousers, draped with a small veil. She headed to the kitchen to prepare her bedtime tea...

She walked through the living room where Uncle was sitting watching the news, and softly muttered, "Good evening, Uncle." "Evening, Uncle's sholy. Please make me a cup of tea when you're in the kitchen." "Alright, Uncle."

In the kitchen, she found Talatu washing the used dishes. "Ah-ah, Talatu, you still haven't gone to bed? Good job." "Evening, my mistress. I'm actually done now, going straight to bed because my eyes are shutting on me."

She prepared Lipton tea for herself and Uncle, squeezing fresh lemon juice into it, placed it on a tray, and headed to the living room just as Talatu came out of the kitchen, said goodnight to them, and walked to her room.

She set the tray down in front of Uncle, picked up his cup, knelt slightly, and handed it to him. He stared intensely into her eyes before taking the cup, grabbing her hands in the process and squeezing them. A strange shiver (yarrr!!) traveled from her fingertips straight to the crown of her head. She quickly looked up, and their eyes locked. She felt a sensation she had never experienced before. Slowly, she withdrew her hand, causing the cup to slip and crash onto the floor. Immediately, the tea spilled all over him, and with a sudden jerk, he gasped, "Washh!" as the scalding hot liquid soaked through to his skin.

"Sorry!" That was all she could manage to say as he quickly pulled her into his embrace in a frenzy. With extremely soft hands, she began pushing him away, but he brought his mouth right to her ear and softly whispered, "Calm down, sholy, listen to what I'm going to tell you..."

ZAMANI - Episode 5

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

He spoke while drawing her closer to his body, placing her right on his lap. Her heart was racing in panic, fearing someone might walk out and see them—whether her Anty or Talatu.

"Humaira, you know you are a very pretty girl. You are so gorgeous, it's as if you sculpted yourself. You have a wonderful, eye-catching shape." "Sholy, you have breathtaking beauty. Any man lucky enough to possess you has truly hit the jackpot. A'isha, I swear I've been in love with you in my heart for a long time, but God didn't give me the chance to tell you until today when I'm here with you. Sholy, please save my heart and accept my love. I swear, sholy, my love for you runs deep in my heart..."

Her entire body went limp as she felt his caresses. Given how she felt, she instantly surrendered her body to him, breathing shallowly as her body trembled continuously.

He picked up the tea mug and brought it to her lips, saying, "Drink, sholy, since I spilled mine, you'll share yours with me, right?" Slowly, he fed her from his mouth while sipping some himself until they finished it entirely.

"Let me walk you to bed so you can sleep, sholy. You have school in the morning, right?" She nodded in response.

He lifted her effortlessly in his arms like a wife or a toddler of three or four years old, carrying her straight to her room. He laid her down on the bed, intentionally acting as though he was about to leave just to see how she would react, because he was well aware of how her body had welcomed the strange new sensations he introduced her to.

In a voice she didn't even know she possessed, she whispered, "Uncle, where are you going?" She pulled his hand, causing him to stumble and fall right onto her body. She let out a soft sigh and murmured, "Washh!"

Slowly, with the finesse of a man driving a woman wild, he began caressing her, pressing every single joint of her body. He stripped away all her clothing until she was left in just her panties. He lost his mind at the sight of her chest. Right away, he went to work on them. She began making soft moans of pleasure, arching her chest upward toward him.

Frenzied, he sucked on them and played with her to his heart's content. A'isha let out a wild cry of pleasure, calling out his name. Their lips locked in a mind-shattering kiss. She began shivering, gripping him tightly as if he were about to run away. For twenty minutes, she was fondled and handled all over until she reached that climax of fulfillment. She squeezed him with all her might for three minutes, then let him go, going completely limp and soft.

"So, sholy, since you've satisfied your craving, shouldn't we grant the cat its wish too?" he asked, stripping off his clothes—he had only been wearing a jallabiya with a short pair of shorts underneath.

There he sprawled across the bed with his massive belly in front. Slowly, she began performing mind-blowing moves on him that could drive any man crazy. He instantly began groaning and panting. Quickly, she brought her mouth back to his, continuing with expert maneuvers like an experienced woman or a seasoned wife who had seen it all.

For fifteen minutes, she put him through astonishing plays despite being an unmarried virgin. Soon enough, he too reached fulfillment. He headed to the bathroom, washed up, came out, dressed, pressed a kiss to her forehead, and said, "Go to sleep, but make sure you dream of me sweetly, you hear?" She nodded, and he walked out, turning off her bedroom lights.

ZAMANI - Episode 6

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

In the darkness, she followed him with her gaze until he closed the door, her eyes lingering on the spot long after. She broke into a smile whose meaning only she knew, and soon, a sweet sleep carried her away after she recited her bedtime prayers.

It was a massive, magnificent mansion I saw located in the federal capital city, Abuja. Even the gate of the house was a sight to behold, let alone the actual building inside. Workers were busy carrying out their duties in every corner, bustling back and forth. One look at any of them showed they were experts at their jobs, executing everything with supreme competence.

Every member of the household had gathered around the dining table for breakfast. Looking at all of them, one glance revealed striking resemblances among them; without a doubt, they all came from the same womb.

This was Alhaji Abubakar Kassim Shattima, a very prominent man who wielded significant influence with the government at the time. He was the Minister of Finance and a wealthy businessman. He was a pure Fulani man, exceptionally handsome. Beyond his looks, he possessed a great character with no flaws, save for being a firm man of strict principles who ran an orderly household. He tolerated no nonsense; unless a matter was important, one dared not approach him with it. Furthermore, once he made a decision, it had to be followed as he wished—he never spoke with a double tongue in his framework. People held him in awe, especially because he was a man of truth and trustworthiness.

His sole wife was a Shuwa Arab woman named Hajiya Fatima. Her beauty was beyond description. Hajiya Fatima was a patient, forgiving woman, possessing great humility and generosity. Their wealth never blinded her; she was exceedingly kind.

God blessed them with four children—two boys and two girls. Ali Kassim Shattima was the firstborn, a young man swimming in wealth and privilege. Ali Haydar was a calm young man whose true self was known only to his inner circle of close friends; to the outside world, he remained reserved. Ali was a pampered child to his parents, especially his father and mother, who affectionately addressed him as the firstborn.

Ali Haydar was exceptionally handsome—as expected, given his parents' good looks combined. He looked as though he had sculpted himself; his parents took immense pride in his looks.

Ali Haydar was a Customs officer holding a high rank in his career. He worked in Lagos, but just yesterday, he had returned to Abuja due to a transfer reassignment from Abuja to Katsina. He came home to inform his parents before heading to Katsina. Ali was a proud man of strong character who detested disrespect. He was obsessively clean—so much so that his friends jokingly called him "the man with the heavenly paradise of cleanliness" because his hygiene was on another level.

Next to him was Yusuf Kassim Shattima, a fierce, high-ranking military soldier. Then there was Safiyyah, who was married in Abuja to a prominent man, and finally, their lastborn Fatima, named after their mother and called Miemiee. That was that.

"Abba, I'm hungry. Yaya Ali hasn't come out yet. Abba, should I go call him..." A wild, intoxicating aroma suddenly swept through the entire living room—a scent that pierced the heart and was delightful to inhale.

With calm poise, majestic strides, and a gait that captivated anyone watching, especially at first glance, came a brilliant radiance shining upon his face like a star.

With absolute elegance, he approached his parents, knelt completely to the ground, and greeted them. They responded cheerfully, and he stood up to take one of the seats. His siblings all greeted him in turn, including the fierce military soldier who sat making faces...

ZAMANI - Episode 7

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

Miemiee got up and served everyone whatever they wanted. When she reached Ali, he raised his hand to stop her, saying, "Leave it, I don't like dirt!" She curled her lip slightly, sat back down, and continued eating without casting another glance his way.

With calm composure, he chewed his food as though he had little appetite. When they finished, he addressed his parents, reconfirming his impending trip. They offered prayers and advice for his success in the task ahead, showering him with blessings. His siblings all saw him off to his car, watched him drive away, and then returned inside.

Early in the morning, A'isha woke up, recited the waking-up supplication (Alhamdulillahillazi ahyana badama amatana wa'ilaihin nushur), stepped down from the bed, and walked straight into the bathroom where she performed her ritual purification. She came out, performed her prayers, and instead of getting up immediately, continued her remembrance of God (adhkar) until 6:30 AM. Then she got up and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

In the kitchen, she found Talatu busy cleaning up. They greeted each other with mutual respect. She boiled water and poured it into a flask, fried plantains and eggs which she placed in a food warmer, and arranged two plates, two forks, tea cups, and two bottles of ice-cold water—one of which was already frosting over. She neatly arranged all these items inside an attractive basket.

At 7:05 AM, the homeowners emerged dressed in their work clothes (readers already know how bank workers' attire looks). With a bright smile, A'isha greeted them. They warmly acknowledged her, deeply appreciating how well she cared for the house and their meals, never slacking on their food.

She walked them all the way to the car, holding her Uncle's brief case in one hand and the food basket in the other. Anty Abida opened the passenger door and got in. A'isha cast a lingering look at the car, which had been washed and ironed to a brilliant sheen. Who knows what thoughts were running through her mind? Before he got into the car, the domestic staff came over to greet them. After gracefully acknowledging the greetings, he opened the car door and got in. A'isha opened the back door, placed her items inside, and closed the door for them.

He glanced at her sideways and asked, "A'isha, there's no problem at all, right?" He asked, fixing his gaze on her. She merely smiled and said, "I swear there's no problem at all, Uncle, I'm just praying that God grants you a safe journey there and back, and blesses your work."

They all responded with "Ameen." He drove off, and she waved to them until they cleared the gate.

She returned inside, tidied up her room, went over to clean and sweep their bedroom until it was spotless, polished it, scented it with aromatic incense, sprayed it with air freshener, and pulled the door shut...

ZAMANI - Episode 8

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

Around 10:00 AM, after eating a snack, A'isha returned to her room. She plunged straight into the bathroom, took a refreshing bath, performed her ablutions, and dressed in a long, fitted Ankara gown that hugged her curves perfectly. She sprayed herself with perfume, wrapped a large veil over her head, and stepped onto her prayer mat to perform the mid-morning voluntary prayers (Salat al-Duha).

She performed four rak'ahs, delivered her salutations, and immediately began seeking forgiveness (Istighfar) three times: (Allahumma antassalam, waminkas salam, tabarakta ya zuljalalu wal'ikram). She then recited Ayat al-Kursi once, Amanarrasulu once, and Lakad ja'akum once. (It is recommended after every prayer to start with these words, for whoever guards them will be saved by God from the Hellfire, and Paradise is guaranteed for them. Furthermore, after Duha prayer, one should say (Allahumma ghafirli watub alaiya innaka antattauwaburrahim) one hundred times at any moment). A'isha recited all of these, followed by sending blessings upon the Prophet. When she completed her requests, she stood up and drifted into a pleasant sleep to rest.

Around 12:30 PM, she woke up abruptly as her phone buzzed incessantly. She saw the name "Bello" flashing across the screen. With trembling hands, she answered and held it to her ear. "Hello sweetheart" "Hello baby, how are you?" "Fine, sweetheart. How is work?" "Alhamdulillah. Are you home?" "Yes, I'm home. Are you there too?" "Sweetheart, why does your voice sound so low? Is everything okay?" "Hmm, it's barely okay, baby. I swear, baby, they're trying to disgrace me!" "Subhanallah... what is going on, for God's sake? Listen to how my heart is beating. Please tell me immediately what is happening." "Baby, I've been transferred to Lagos!" "What?" she exclaimed loudly, almost tumbling off the bed. "You mean they sent you to Lagos?" "Oh, my God! I, A'isha, have seen trouble today." "A'isha, right now is not the time for crying. Come over so we can say our goodbyes, because tomorrow at dawn I have to go to Kaduna to bid them farewell, and from there I'll catch a flight to Lagos." "Alright, I'm coming right now. Are you at home?" "Yes." "Okay."

She went to perform ablution, prayed Dhuhr, threw on her veil, slipped into her sandals, and rushed out of the house without even bidding Talatu goodbye.

Slowly, she pushed open the gate and entered. She found him pacing back and forth in the courtyard. Seeing her, he rushed toward her, picked her up effortlessly, and carried her inside the house...

ZAMANI - Episode 9

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

Ali Haydar arrived safely in Katsina and took up temporary lodging at the Katsina Motel. After bathing, praying, and resting, he woke up around 5:00 PM and ordered food. After eating and burping in praise of God, he pulled out his phone to call his friend based in Katsina. He dialed three times, but his friend didn't pick up. Ali's temper flared because, by his rule, he only called once; if you didn't pick up, that was it. But today, he had dialed three times with no answer, so he threw his phone away in disgust.

After about ten minutes, he let out a hiss, picked up the phone he had thrown away, and decided to visit his friend at home, knowing he would likely find him there.

Straight into his bedroom he carried her, laying her down on his bed. He leaned over her frantically, sniffing her like an animal while her breathing grew shallow and she arched her body repeatedly like a catfish. Cleverly, he stripped away all her clothing until she was bare. In trembling haste, he got up, retrieved a tub of ice cream from the mini-fridge in the room, and nervously popped the lid open. Climbing back onto the bed, he scooped some up and dropped it directly onto her chest.

She let out a delicious sigh as the freezing cold substance hit her bare chest unexpectedly, her eyes remaining closed throughout. She let out another sigh and stretched her body. He pressed his mouth to her chest right where the ice cream sat, sucking and licking it away like a madman. He kept applying more to her body and licking it off in a wild, spellbinding manner. He continued until he had licked it all away completely.

Setting the tub aside, he sealed their lips together and began sucking as if he had found candy. In intense craving, she grabbed his tongue, treating him to maneuvers that made him groan and tremble with cold-like shivers. Seeing this, she withdrew her mouth and began exploring his body with stinging kisses that made him feel as though his breath was leaving his body.

She kept going, gradually sliding down until she landed on his major treasure trove. Right there, A'isha began playing a wicked game with him that made him start crying like a toddler, muttering incoherently while gripping her head tightly. Finally, he rolled her over, climbing on top to shield her, and attempted to push his treasure inside her. She feigned total ignorance, and they began a fierce struggle. She struck him with all her might, but he had gone completely wild, lost to his senses, unaware of what he was doing...

Right at the moment he succeeded in pressing her down onto the mattress, they heard the gate being banged violently as if someone was about to smash it down...

ZAMANI - Episode 10

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

Giving a vicious hiss, he cursed foully, angrily lifting her up and scrambling for his short trousers. He grabbed them from the edge of the bed, put them on, and bolted out in a flash—looking as though he might trip—fully intent on giving whoever was outside a piece of his mind and ripping the gate off its hinges for interrupting him at the climax of his pursuit.

The banging on the gate hadn't stopped. In a rage, he yanked it open, shouting, "Which idiot is trying to smash my..." His words choked and died on his lips as his eyes locked with those of his friend and companion—none other than ALI KASSIM SHATTIMA.

Overjoyed, Ali pulled him into a hug, shouting, "You're truly an idiot! What kind of surprise attack is this? We spoke on the phone today, yet you didn't mention you were arriving today, you scoundrel!"

Ali shoved him aside, barging straight into the house. Bello hurried after him, protesting, "Will you look at this fool of a man? He shoved me just to barge uninvited into my house!"

At that exact moment, A.isha emerged from the room, adjusting her head veil. Their eyes met, and Ali's heart skipped a terrible beat. He stared at her from head to toe, while she whispered with trembling lips, "Aliyu...!"

A wicked glare was shot her way as he let out a long, heavy hiss. He brushed past her shoulder and strode straight into the bedroom. He stopped dead in the center of the room, staring at the disheveled bed. The bedsheets were rumpled and bunched up together, the pillows tossed in opposite directions, and the tub of ice cream lay overturned on the mattress. Filled with bitter resentment, he turned to walk out when his foot trod on something. Looking down, he realized he had stepped on A'isha's panties lying discarded on the floor—she had rushed out in such blind panic, terror, and confusion that she forgot to grab them before fleeing.

He jerked his foot away as if he had stepped on burning embers. His heart began burning with a fierce ache. Right away, he placed his right hand over his chest, walked out into the living room, and sat down on one of the couches, gripping his head tightly. He couldn't fathom why he had fallen into this state. He knew this was only the second time they were crossing paths; if he remembered correctly, three months ago they had met on Instagram, greeted each other, and she sent him her picture while he sent his. They exchanged numbers, and she told him she was studying in Katsina though she was originally from Yola. He told her he worked as a Customs officer in Lagos. After chatting for a couple of days, he asked her what class she was in, and she replied she was in 200 level. That was when he backed off, because he disliked mingling with young girls; he preferred mature women who had finished university or were working. When she said she was studying in Katsina, he assumed she was in her final year. When he asked her age, she told him 21. From that day onward, he stopped talking to her; even when she messaged, he ignored her until she eventually grew tired and stopped too. And now, today, they had locked eyes again—and he found her in his friend's house under these circumstances.

He let out a heavy sigh, tightly closing his eyes, which had turned bloodshot red like ripe scarlet plums.

Bello walked in, complaining, "Such a foolish girl! She's always leaving on bad terms. I'm leaving tomorrow, and as for her, she won't see me again except by the grace of God. But why would she ruin our parting like this? Though honestly, Haydar, you're the one who caused this, you fool, you made me lose my fun..."

Ali raised a vicious, murderous glare toward him with his bloodshot eyes...

The wisest person is the one who leaves the world before it leaves him, fixes his grave before entering it, fears his Lord before meeting Him, prays in congregation before funeral prayers are said for him, and takes account of his own soul before it is called to account. For today is the day of work, without reckoning; tomorrow is the Day of Reckoning, without work. May God make us successful. GOOD MORNING

ZAMANI - Episode 11

(NAGARTA WRITERS ASSOCIATION - NWA)

Ali raised a vicious, murderous glare toward him with his terrifying bloodshot eyes. "Why are you staring at me with those bulging eyes? You're the one courting disaster! I know seeing A'isha is what rattled you. You womanizer, you shameless scoundrel, you addict! I swear, this girl is out of reach—you can only look and gaze from a distance. With all your addiction, you can only wish her well from afar."

Ali's temper flared even higher. Did Bello mean she was his alone, which was why he spoke to him like that? Truly, this girl had deceived him.

"A'isha, why do you refuse to let Isa the driver take you to school, opting instead to ride on motorcycles or tricycles, iye?" "Didn't your Anty scold you last week? Didn't she tell you to start using her car? Why do you insist on being disobedient, uhm?" "Uncle..." "Shh! I don't want to hear a word from you. From today on, I don't want to see you on a motorcycle ever again, or else you'll face my wrath, do you hear me?"

He fixed his gaze on her after his wife left the area. He wanted her to lift her head, but she refused. In a low voice, he said, "Go get ready, we're going to the market."

She lifted her wide, beautiful eyes and stared at him without saying a word, then got up and walked to her room. As far as she was concerned, she was going to be restricted unfairly if forced to stop taking bikes or tricycles—since riding them was how she enjoyed her freedom. Since Bello was currently out of town and she had no one else to hang out with, she would rather use Anty's car than let Isa drive her, though she wouldn't dare miss a chance to sneak out with her Uncle whenever he managed to slip away.

"Abeeda, get ready let's go to the market. Look, today is Sunday, let's go buy food supplies. Talatu says our stock is running very low, we better go today." "Please bear with me, dear, go with A'isha instead. I really want to sleep right now." "Sleep in the afternoon like this? Look at the clock, it's 5:00!" "Dear, I swear I can't go. Just bear with me and go with A'isha. Next time I'll go with you, you hear, my husband? What's the big deal? Whatever I can do, A'isha can do just as well, it's all the same. Tell her to check the store to see what's missing, make a list, and you two can just go."

Summary

Zamani by Fiddausi Sodangi is a gripping romance and contemporary moral drama that revolves around the secret lives, hidden temptations, and entangled relationships of young people and adults caught in webs of deceit. The story follows A'isha, a young undergraduate living with her relatives (an influential banker uncle and his wife, Anty Abida), who leads a double life. While maintaining an outward appearance of modesty and domestic diligence under the guidance of her home, she secretly engages in passionate, clandestine affairs with older, worldly men—most notably her married Uncle and a rogue named Bello. The plot thickens dramatically when Ali Haydar, a strict, upright Customs officer and the son of a powerful government official, crosses paths with A'isha under scandalous circumstances at Bello's residence, setting off a chain of emotional turmoil, moral reckonings, and complex family dynamics.

Description

This literary work explores themes of moral decay, hypocrisy, forbidden romance, and the consequences of hidden indiscretions in modern society. Set primarily in Katsina and Abuja, Nigeria, the narrative contrasts high-society prestige with private corruption. Through vivid character sketches—ranging from the calculating and seductive A'isha to the stern, hygienic, and principled Ali Haydar, alongside domestic staff and elite figures—the author paints a realistic picture of modern ethical challenges, temptation, and the inescapable weight of truth.

Analytics

  • Character Dynamics: A'isha represents youthful temptation and hidden duplicity, navigating the fine line between traditional expectations and secret desires. The male characters (Uncle, Bello, and Ali Haydar) highlight contrasting moral archetypes: the predatory relative abusing authority, the reckless playboy, and the uncompromising man of principle.
  • Pacing & Structure: The narrative uses episodic chapter breaks to heighten tension, alternating between domestic routines (cooking, cleaning, schooling) and high-stakes romantic or clandestine encounters.
  • Cultural & Social Context: Deeply rooted in Northern Nigerian settings, the story reflects urban middle-class and elite lifestyles, banking careers, security agency environments, and the strict social codes governing modesty versus private reality.

Conclusions

Zamani serves as both an entertaining contemporary romance and a cautionary tale about the dangers of secret sins and moral compromise. It underscores the proverb that actions done in secret eventually come to light, while highlighting how personal integrity (exemplified by characters like Ali Haydar) clashes with systemic corruption and individual weakness.
