ZAMAN AURE BOOK COMPELET

Chapter 1

Amidst everything, the most annoying sound was the barking of dogs that filled the neighborhood, alongside the noise of generators turned on in the houses across the street. Every household had returned to its home and locked up, except for Kamal’s house, because up to that time, he had not yet returned.

Sakna was sitting, supporting her chin with her hand in deep frustration, checking the clock hanging on her bedroom wall from time to time. She was huddled at the foot of the bed, wiping away tears every now and then. Suddenly, she heard the harsh sound of a car horn. Startled, she stood up, lifted the window curtain, and saw him coming out of his room running. He rushed to open the gate for Kamal, who drove his car inside at high speed. She dropped the curtain and went out to sit in their large, blue-and-silver decorated parlor, waiting for Kamal to enter.

It took him a long time in the car before he finally stepped out, swaying unsteadily. He could barely keep his eyes open because they felt extremely heavy. With great force, he banged on the parlor door, which startled Sakna. She jumped up, hurried over to him, and began welcoming him home while saying:

"Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un. Kamal, welcome home."

He pushed her away so hard she almost fell. Speaking in a slurred, drunken voice, he began:

"Sakna, don't you dare call me Kamal ever again! You will call me Bobson. What are you waiting for? Why haven't you gone to sleep yet? Or did you stay up just to gossip?"

As soon as he finished saying that, he vomited all over her clothes. A terrible stench hit her nose, and instantly, she burst into a pitiful cry. At that moment, the parlor clock struck 1:00 AM.

Labiba was sitting in her massive, lavish parlor, fully dolled up, chewing gum and making cracking sounds. A handsome young man pushed open a door and stepped out from a room near her. He came over, sat down, and planted a kiss on her neck. She turned her head away in playfulness as he began speaking in a pleading tone:

"What is wrong again, Labiba? Is it that you don't like the food I cooked? You know that your anger is a disaster in the life of Jameel."

With coyness and playful cooing, she began to speak:

"Jameel, honestly, I don't want you to go out and leave me. I feel so scared, and you are going out without giving me food."

"Please, Labiba, bear with me and eat by yourself. You see I am already late for work, and I have piled up work at the office."

"Fine, Jameel, go ahead, but I swear I won't touch this food."

He held his head, placed his briefcase down, stood up, and went to fetch the food warmers from the dining table. He placed them right in front of Labiba, scooped some food, and started feeding her with his own hands until she was full. Then he cleared away the plates and took them to the kitchen. It was around 9:30 AM when he finally left for the office, while she simply went back to bed.

Meanwhile, on Abdulmalik’s side, he was sitting down with Ruhaima right beside him, busy acting all playful and demanding attention. He looked at her, winked, and said:

"Ruhaima, stop upsetting yourself over that girl calling me on the phone. Just put it in your mind that Malik is yours and yours alone."

"That's what you always say, but you fail to caution her."

"Don't worry, okay, wife of B. Malik?"

The greeting from Abdulmalik’s mother interrupted whatever reply Ruhaima was about to make. Instantly, Ruhaima's heart began beating wildly, and she locked eyes with Malik, who was also staring right back at her.

Over at Hafeez’s house, he had been busy since morning preparing to return to Kaduna, where he worked. He turned his gaze toward his wife, Areefa, who was sitting there sulking and frowning. He smiled, walked over to her, cupped her face, and said:

"Come on, Areefa. What is the meaning of this anger? Would you prefer I stay home and not go out to earn the food I bring to you?"

She kept quiet as if she wasn't going to answer. After a moment, she sighed and said:

"I am not complaining about you seeking provision, but you know that what you are doing is not fair. Or have you forgotten that I am also a human being who needs a companion, just like any other woman who has a husband? Honestly, Hafeez, I am starting to get tired. You are putting my life in danger. Imagine, once you leave and travel, I only see you occasionally. What kind of marriage are we even running? Honestly, I am going with you."

"Hmm, Areefa. So now what about your school? Please bear with me; this time I won't stay long, okay?"

He coaxed her until she calmed down, bid her farewell, and left after placing a bundle of three 200-naira notes for her. As soon as he stepped out, his phone started ringing. He answered it with a smile:

"I am on my way now. I am almost arriving in Kaduna."

Right after saying that, he hung up the phone and let out a sigh of relief.

Chapter 2

Mardiya cleared her throat quickly. The young man lowered his gaze from her, and with her sweet-sounding voice, she said:

"Welcome, I hope you arrived safely."

"Hello there, young lady. I am fine, thank you. My name is Nuraddeen Kasim."

"Masha Allah. Please come in, have some water. Mommy is in the kitchen; she will be out shortly."

"Okay, no problem. However, I didn't get to hear my little sister's name..."

"Mardiya," she simply replied.

As soon as she finished speaking, she walked away. Right then, he felt impressed by the young girl. Softly, he repeated her name. Nabil interrupted him from his deep thoughts by saying:

"Welcome, our guest! Sorry you arrived while Daddy stepped out briefly, but he won't take long to return. My name is Nabil."

Smiling—being a person who dislikes noise—Nuraddeen replied:

"Hello, Nabil. Thank you. I hope you will treat me as an elder brother, a friend, and live in peace with me."

"A why not? Don't worry about a thing, my Big Brother."

Mommy’s appearance from the kitchen made him quiet down. Slowly, he got down from the stool and stepped forward to greet her. With a welcoming smile, she answered. Immediately, she felt the boy was delightful and she took a liking to him. Looking at Nabil, she said:

"Nabil, accompany your older brother to his room so he can freshen up and rest, then you can go collect his food."

"Consider it done, my Mommy! Bross, let's go."

With calmness, Nuraddeen stood up, thanked Mommy, and went outside. Mommy returned to the kitchen where she found Mardiya and Yasmeen finishing up their chores. Looking at Yasmeen, she said:

"Yasmeen, didn't you notice the arrival of this guest? That's why you failed to come out and greet him. Have you already forgotten your Daddy's instruction? He looks good to you, so act sensible."

Yasmeen pushed out her lower lip in a pout and whined:

"Mommy, I didn't know he had arrived."

Mommy just hissed and resumed her work. Mardiya simply kept her gaze fixed on Yasmeen, because the young girl's behavior always baffled her.

Alhaji Habib did not return home until around 2:30 PM. He walked straight to his private quarters, changed his clothes from a shadda outfit into a white jallabiya, and stepped out. He found his family members in the parlor, except for Nabil, who was keeping Nuraddeen company. He found a seat and sat down. They all began welcoming him with cheerful smiles. Looking at his wife, he asked:

"Majidda, has our son arrived?"

"Yes, Your Excellency, he has arrived. He is in the room prepared for him. In fact, your favorite boy has been the one fetching food for them since he arrived and hasn't come back yet."

"Nabil? Well, he will be the happiest about Nura's arrival. Yasmeen, go quickly and call them for me."

"Alright, Daddy."

She stood up and headed toward the room shared by Nabil and Nura. Softly, she began knocking on the door. From inside, a voice answered:

"Who is there?"

"It's Yasmeen. Ya Nabil, please open the door for me. I am in a hurry."

Calmly, Nuraddeen walked over and opened the door. Just as she was about to start speaking rudely to him, she realized it wasn't Nabil. Softly, she uttered:

"Hello... are you the guest Daddy said was coming?"

"Yes, I am. Nabil is taking a bath; when he comes out, I will tell him. Whom should I say came to call him?"

"It's not me calling you guys; it's Daddy. My name is Yasmeen."

"Okay."

Without saying anything else, she turned and went back inside. He returned to the room and bumped into Nabil, who had just finished bathing. Looking at him, Nuraddeen said:

"Nabil, hurry up and get dressed. Daddy has returned and is calling you."

"Understood, Bross."

Nuraddeen just smiled, waited for him to tidy up, and then they headed out to the parlor where Daddy was. Nabil led the way while Nuraddeen followed closely behind. Both of them entered uttering greetings. Nabil went and sat near Daddy, while Nuraddeen sat a little distance away from them. Quickly, Daddy looked at him and said:

"Come on, my son, move closer. Don't feel shy; this is your home too."

Slowly, Nuraddeen moved closer, lowered his head, and greeted him respectfully. Daddy extended his hand for a handshake, which he accepted while saying:

"Nuraddeen, how was the journey? I hope you arrived safely. How is your father, and everyone else?"

"They are fine, Daddy. Everyone is well, and they send their regards."

"That is wonderful, we receive them. What I want from you is to feel completely free and relaxed; we are your parents too. Here are your younger siblings—I am giving you full authority over them. Anyone who misbehaves, punish them, and for the future, focus entirely on what brought you here. Don't follow bad friends, do you hear?"

"Insha Allah, Daddy. I will be careful. Thank you, may Allah increase your status."

"Ameen, ya Allah, my son," Mommy chimed in.

They spent a while in the parlor chatting. His attention was completely fixed on Mardiya, who didn't look his way again after initially greeting him. Yasmeen looked at him and said:

"Ya N., don't ever mind Ya Nabil. He loves teasing people."

He just laughed, stood up, and went outside. Mommy looked at Yasmeen and said:

"May Allah guide you, Yasmeen! Right upon his arrival, you are already starting to show your true colors?"

Whining, she said:

"Mommy, I honestly just told him the truth."

"Enough. Stand up and go prepare for Asr prayer; it is almost time," Daddy said as he began eating his meal.

The next morning was Monday. Since early morning, they got ready to go to school. All of them were sitting at the dining table quietly drinking tea when Nuraddeen entered with greetings. He squatted down to greet Daddy and Mommy, who responded with smiling faces. Daddy motioned for him to sit with a hand gesture. Slowly, he pulled out a chair and sat down. Calmly, Mardiya raised her head and looked at him. In her soft, thin voice, she said:

"Good morning..."

"Fine, thank you, my little sister. Yasmeen, did you sleep well?"

"Fine, thank you, Ya N. How is your stay?"

He flashed the familiar smile that had become second nature to him. Mommy looked at him and said:

"Hurry up and have your breakfast, don't mind them. Mardiya, dish out some tea for him and serve him potatoes and eggs."

"Haba Mommy, we are actually going together, right Bross?" Nabil interjected.

Mardiya picked up a cup and a plate, filling it with tea. He thought she was pouring too much, but he kept quiet. Just as she was about to add milk, he stopped her by saying:

"No, don't put milk for me. I prefer Lipton tea. Nabil, are we taking the same route?"

"Yes, it's close to the B.U.K. School of Basic Studies. So, if you are going out early, you can drop them off. My small car is parked there; you can use it for running errands."

"Thank you, Daddy. May Allah increase your honor. Mommy, please help me thank him."

"Come on, my son, there is no thanking between us."

In a short while, they finished their breakfast and went out. Nabil led the way, with Mardiya and the others following behind. Nuraddeen adjusted his car's rear-view mirror so he could catch a glimpse of Mardiya's face. In a short while, they arrived at Nabil's school along Kabuga Road. They thanked Nuraddeen and walked away. He drove off toward B.U.K.

As for Mardiya, she was amazed by Nuraddeen's handsome appearance, silently admiring how well-put-together he was. When she reached her classroom, however, she couldn't easily loosen up around him because she wasn't someone who made friends quickly. Because of this, some people mistook her for being proud.

On Nuraddeen's end, ever since he dropped off Nabil, he kept picturing Mardiya's face because the quiet girl had completely impressed him. He drove into the campus, and the moment he entered, several young women fixed their eyes on him, though he remained completely oblivious to it. He headed straight to the department of theater arts for his lectures. There, he met some friends—Mukhtar and Nazifi—and immediately felt a sense of comfort around them, bonding instantly as though they had known each other for a long time. Every single woman who caught a glimpse of Nuraddeen couldn't help staring at him again.

Just who is this Nuraddeen anyway?!

Chapter 3

Kamal did not wake up from sleep until around 8:30 AM. By that time, Sakna was already wide awake, having finished all the household chores, prepared breakfast for them, taken a bath, and renewed her ablution. She walked over to the edge of the bed and started waking Kamal up. In a groggy sleep state, he yanked her forcefully so that she fell right onto his chest. She began pushing him away, but he wrapped his arms tightly around her and planted a kiss on her neck. In a weak, raspy voice, she began speaking:

"Honey bee, you haven't prayed yet! Please wake up and go perform your ablution; right now it's almost 9:00 o'clock."

"My dear, you worry way too much. I will pray eventually, but I can't have any peace of mind until I find comfort right here with you."

As soon as he finished saying that, he began handling her with experienced mastery. She burst into tears, but he paid no attention to it whatsoever until he attained the satisfaction he mentioned. Finally, he stood up and headed to the bathroom to take a bath...

Summary

The provided text introduces multiple intersecting storylines and domestic dynamics. In the first plot, Sakna anxiously waits late into the night for her husband Kamal (who insists on being called Bobson), only for him to return heavily intoxicated, verbally abusive, and physically ill. Meanwhile, Labiba is catered to by a doting Jameel, and Ruhaima shares a tense romantic dynamic with Abdulmalik while Hafeez prepares to leave for Kaduna, leaving an unhappy Areefa behind.

The narrative then shifts to a serene and structured household belonging to Alhaji Habib (Dady) and Majidda (Momy), where a polite and handsome young man named Nuraddeen Kasim arrives as a guest/relative. He is warmly received by the family, meets siblings like Nabil, Yasmeen, and the quiet, reserved Mardiya—who immediately captures his interest. The chapters close with Nuraddeen settling into his university life at B.U.K., making new friends, and Kamal waking up late to dismiss his religious obligations in favor of his desires.

Comments & Conclusions

  • Contrast in Relationships: The story vividly contrasts toxic, chaotic marriages (like Kamal and Sakna's, or Hafeez and Areefa's struggles with distance and neglect) with more structured, disciplined family environments (like the home of Alhaji Habib).
  • Character Dynamics: Nuraddeen serves as a charming, respectful archetype who brings a fresh dynamic to the Habib household, particularly drawing the quiet admiration of Mardiya.
  • Conclusion: The excerpt serves as an engaging opening narrative that sets up romantic tensions, marital conflicts, and the blending of new lives within extended family settings.
